ESTORIL

Estoril is a small town 20 kilometers away from Lisbon located on the coast and near the sea (see the side map). This is a very pleasant place to stay in the winter. The hotel is within walking distance of the beach, the Casino Estoril, many street cafés and pubs and is ideally placed to reach a wide range of professional golf courses, tennis courts and the automobile racetrack. Not far from Estoril, we have Cascais (a picturesque town), Cabo da Roca (the most western point in continental Europe) and Sintra, an exquisite old town

During World War II, with Portugal's neutrality, Estoril was a haven for European Royalty, and became known as the "Coast of Kings". But the region was also frequented by both British and German Spies. Estoril was the scene for real stories of intrigue and espionage, which inspired various famous books and films. Some scenes of the James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" were filmed in the region. "Casino Royale” - the first Fleming's book with James Bond as personage - was inspired on Casino Estoril. Not only the title of the book but also gambling scenes were inspired by this famous casino.

The Winter School on Network Optimization will be held in Hotel Londres located in Avenida Fausto Figueiredo, 279, 2765-412 Estoril/ Cascais, Portugal.

Hotel Londres is just 450 meters from the iconic Tamariz Beach and 500 meters from Casino Estoril.

The Estoril Train station which guarantees all connections to/ from the city of Lisboa (just 40-50 minutes by train) and Cascais (3 min).

Lisbon Airport is a 20-40 minute drive.

How to reach Hotel Londres

By Car

From the International Lisbon Airport, follow signs saying Cascais. Take the Highway (A5) towards Estoril. Exit to the sign saying Estoril. Pass two roundabouts in front. Turn first left, and follow signs saying Cascais and take Av. Marginal (EN6). Passing the casino gardens and the church, turn the first street on the right side, go straight and the Hotel is on the left.

By public transports

There are two possibilities, subway+train or taxi:

Take the subway at the airport, station Aeroporto (red line), the fare is 1.80 euros plus 0.50 euros for the card (please keep the card as you can reuse it). Exit at station ALAMEDA and take the green line towards Cais-do-Sodré (end of line). (for more information visit http://www.metrolisboa.pt/eng/ )

Once in Cais-do-Sodré follow the signs to Cais-do-Sodré train station where you should take the train to Estoril. There are many trains every hour. The fare is 2.40 euros.
